Andrea Mariconti is a man on a quest, an artist ever on the lookout, a person who is moved and moves through the world, through the history of the human race, through the geology of the earth, in the anthropized environment and within his own soul. He is a man who embarks on a journey both physical and internal, sharing findings and discoveries both small and great through his artwork. He is a “being-in-motion” (indeed, his status as “pilgrim in the world” is one that marks him ontologically) who invites us all to follow on the quest for self-knowledge, for knowledge of the other: the quest for meaning. He sets forth on this quest from his particular vantage point as a thoughtful, patient and meticulous artist, a master of multiple painting techniques, an attentive observer and tireless experimenter, a man capable of truly daring artistic principles and painting actions, yet always with such good measure as to make the brilliant seem natural.

Andrea Mariconti’s work is lucidly focused on the analysis of the actual process of creation that is so clearly and powerfully displayed by copper age monuments. This masterpieces, found underground, have lost through the centuries their sacred role, laying hidden from sight. forgotten, waiting to see again the light of day
It’s the creator’s eye, that projects its ideas in thin air, giving them life in the blink of an eye. Ideas become symbols, floating over the nude rocks, right before their birth, like ghosts. Mariconti portrays these sequences of symbols like palimpsests, that always obey to the code, underlying and all ruling, in their purest form: it’s the form of a thought, crystalized and fixated in time, like a distant horizon, still, immutable. The painter plays with ghosts.

I remember that one day Davide Benati, told me a story. T’was the story of his father, in Sicily island (IT) during WWII bombings. T’was evening, and the man, fleeing  through the fields, ended in a plain, open valley. From the place where it was he could distinctly recognize the shapes of many rounded geometrical objects. There where the fragments columns of the Agrigento temples valley, destroyed and crumbled down. Like hay bales in a grass field.

I don’t find a more efficient vehicle other than the Politics, to deal with the “dignity of the vulnerables” theme. I’ve decided to give nobility at this vehicle, because as a vehicle I consider the Parliament. The lower panel of the painting portrays Montecitorio during the Costituente meeting (the moment is peculiar): It has been painted with exhausted petroleum and ash, through the traditional technique by noble glazes. I wanted to draw the “dignity of the vulnerables” theme to the Work theme: I choose one of my photo about an Eternit roof. The photo has been covered with salt and has become the painting’s top panel. The history of the Eternit is famous: although was documented since 1962 that the asbestos fibers caused a form of pleural mesothelioma, Eternit and Fibronit continued to manifacture their products till 1986-1992, trying to keep the employees in a total state of ignorance about the damages they could face, with the purpose to extend the activity of the plant. The labourers, totally conscious of what they had to face, decided to go to work every day.

The act itself of willing to represent something in a different form, for example using a simple contour line technique or even changing its shape and its dimension, not only implies the creation of a new object, or a new living thing. It implies the awareness not of the possibility, but of the existence of another reality, in which this newthing is born and lives: it is the world of ideas, it is unreality. This represents a major breakthrough in the evolutionary process of the homo genre, a twist that gave way to the birth of conscience, reason, philosophy, science.
