In a very big exhibition, where paintings, drawings, sketches and engravings of the last five years are collected, sculptures represent the possibility to create a new synthesis between sign, sound and material, in a circular space full of obstacles that let Mariconti show his inner landscape. Doing this, he refuses the traditional paths of representation that in any case he had already dissected in his painting and the battlefield where he proves his planning and technical ability is the three-dimensional surface. […] They are sculptures with a double soul that develop their potentiality of sign and language and, at the same time, act as a connection between the material sphere and the immaterial one. All that flaws into an interesting, singular solution, according to synesthetic and performative experiences. […]
The resulting image reminds us about a natural element, an acorn indeed, hanging like fruit on a tree. But this research refuses any categorization and it’s not by chance that the ambiguous structure of the sculptures evokes a Chinese box, because it hides many other suggestions and references to past worlds and we can perceive urns, jars and prehistoric utensils. Andrea Mariconti is a man on a quest, an artist ever on the lookout, a person who is moved and moves through the world, through the history of the human race, through the geology of the earth, in the anthropized environment and within his own soul. He is a man who embarks on a journey both physical and internal, sharing findings and discoveries both small and great through his artwork. He is a “being-in-motion” (indeed, his status as “pilgrim in the world” is one that marks him ontologically) who invites us all to follow on the quest for self-knowledge, for knowledge of the other: the quest for meaning. He sets forth on this quest from his particular vantage point as a thoughtful, patient and meticulous artist, a master of multiple painting techniques, an attentive observer and tireless experimenter, a man capable of truly daring artistic principles and painting actions, yet always with such good measure as to make the brilliant seem natural.

Andrea Mariconti’s work is lucidly focused on the analysis of the actual process of creation that is so clearly and powerfully displayed by copper age monuments. This masterpieces, found underground, have lost through the centuries their sacred role, laying hidden from sight. forgotten, waiting to see again the light of day
It’s the creator’s eye, that projects its ideas in thin air, giving them life in the blink of an eye. Ideas become symbols, floating over the nude rocks, right before their birth, like ghosts. Mariconti portrays these sequences of symbols like palimpsests, that always obey to the code, underlying and all ruling, in their purest form: it’s the form of a thought, crystalized and fixated in time, like a distant horizon, still, immutable. The painter plays with ghosts.

I remember that one day Davide Benati, told me a story. T’was the story of his father, in Sicily island (IT) during WWII bombings. T’was evening, and the man, fleeing  through the fields, ended in a plain, open valley. From the place where it was he could distinctly recognize the shapes of many rounded geometrical objects. There where the fragments columns of the Agrigento temples valley, destroyed and crumbled down. Like hay bales in a grass field.
